i found a glassine of someone who had been collecting these plate numbers and use zip code mail early selvages!!

Oh, that's one of the favorites among collectors of Huck Press plate numbers and positions. There are 65 different red plate numbers and 119 green plate numbers, in top and bottom positions -- try getting all the known combinations/positions! It's like that for several of the Huck Press stamps!

I was just a pre-teen when those stamps came out. I remember all of the complications of collecting that issue (and others of that time) with multiple plate numbers, inscriptions, etc., that made me give up the challenge, as even at 6 cents a stamp, it was just too expensive on a kid's allowance.
