I just recently sold this stamp for a nice chunk of change! It was in pristine condition and well cared for from the looks of it and wasn't really flaking much but the guy that bought it kept calling it "onion skin". lol I didn't care what he called it as long as the frogskins he paid for it was good! I forgot all about this little guy until just recently!

Russ,

What is the range of dates on those 88 patents. Are they all related directly to "improvements in postage and revenue stamps" or do they venture into other forms of security printing?

A few decades ago a researcher by the name of Solomon Altmann conducted such a search over a long period, and published the results serially in the Essay-Proof Journal (how many here know about that journal?). When he passed away the work was continued by Solomon Glass. They published not only the names and patent numbers, but also any illustrations they found and a synopsis of the patent specifications. I got interested and have kept a file of them as well, but I never counted how many I have, even for those that are just names and numbers.

Now of course, printed copies and lists are a thing of the past, since practically everything can be accessed online. But I don't think an up-to-date comprehensive list has ever been published. You would also want to identify the patents that made it all the way to physical models.

I'd like to follow up on this with you.
