Hey Gang,

Is this a good deal? http://www.ebay.com/itm/22084766763....m1439.l2649

Wondering if that is a reasonable deal for that batch of mint stamps?

Dave.

Crikey. That looks like back end of my collection (at least what I hope it will look like one day.) I'd say that's a pretty good deal. Kind of takes the fun out of the hunt, though.

A quick count gets me 237 stamps. If each is only worth 20c (catalogue) that's less than 12c per stamp, not including postage.

When you consider how long it took just to put the collection together, the price you are paying is for the time of the seller. I'd say it is an honest price.

Here are some pros and cons:

If you're looking to get a supply of mint stamps all from one source to fill an album, then the offer may be good for you. But in reality, remember that most post-1940 commemorative stamps, even in MNH condition, go for only catalog minimum of $0.20. If, as the ad claims, there are 237 stamps in the offer, then full catalog value would be $47.40. Face value would be about $8 to $10 (and since you can always use the stamps for postage at face value) the offer of $19.95 is basically double face value or about 50% of catalog (+/-).

Can you get these stamps for less? Sure. BUT can you get them all at one time and all complete such as advertised in this offer? That may be a bit more of a challenge. Just keep in mind that all of these stamps were produced in the millions or tens of millions and it seems highly unlikely that any of them will ever be worth more than face value during our lifetime.

At least the seller is offering free shipping, so that would be a bonus to you, as well.

I think it comes out to on the order of 8.5 cents/stamp.

With free shipping - yes I think that's a good deal. That isn't a bad period at all in my opinion.

I think I'm going to bite then.

I have many of these, but this would be "upgrades", given I prefer mint over post-ally used... I like pretty pictures.

Dave.

My eyes counted 237 and that's what the ad says. However many, that's lots. I have many of these already. Think I'll just keep taking the slow road.
Enjoy Dave. Is a good deal.

He didn't include the Liberty series, that's why the number discrepancy.

That was intentional. The offer read 1941 through 1960 COMMEMORATIVES. The Liberty Series was the Definitive issue in that time period, so therefore it was not intended to be included.

Well, my shipment of 41-60 commemorative stamps arrived in the mail today. A very nice batch of stamps indeed. They arrived with a bonus pack of a dozen or so mint air post stamps from a similar era as the other stamps. Very nice all in all.

I think I am going to have some auctions in the near future, as I do have a number of these already in mint. But all in all, a very nice upgrade to that era of my US collection.

I love pretty pictures with out cancellations that more closely resemble meteor strikes than cds cancels.

Dave.

For general issue like these always try to pay face or maybe just over but not much. Like wt1 said it is harder to get all of them at once. Sorry I did not see this topic sooner or would have helped you out. Still can if you need more recent ones or earlier ones.
