I'd appreciate help in identifying these. I suspect they are quite common, though. Are the two orange ones different or just that one is badly faded? The bi-color has a manuscript cancel that is pretty nice and is the type of cancel that I had decided to start collecting last year.

Is the 4c brown appears to be the older than the blue paper 4c; is it?
What was the purpose of the "Inland Exchange" revenue?

Look about a third of the way down on this site where it says REVENUE STAMPS.
http://www.rmpldenver.org/pdf_files...ibblings.pdf

"Inland Exchange. This was, plainly and simply, a promissory note, also called a "time draft." This is by far the most common document available from this era. Promissory notes were used to buy everything from livestock for the farm, to an entire railroad"

Also I'm sorry I can't tell you the Scott#'s or value but this site will help you understand their usage and applications anyway. I'm Positive one of our Revenue Collectors will chime in and help you further. Nice stamps by the way! ~Jay

I have a reference chart of all of the 1st issue denominations on my website:

http://www.revenue-collector.com/usrevs.shtml

It shows pictures of all of the imperf, part perf, perforated, and silk papers, as well as some of the listed varieties.

If you click on any of the image thumbnails, it will open a window showing more information as well as the current Scott catalog value.

There are only pictures and information for ones that I own, but my collection is fairly complete...

There are also similar pages for 2nd issue, 3rd issue, and the first two issues of Proprietary stamps.

Thanks revenuecollector. Your site is fantastic, absolutely wonderful! You might convince me to collect revenues someday. I avoided them for many years simply because of lack of information such as what your site provides.
