Hi wt1,

I think your identification of the Meter 511 is correct. Keep in mind that the designs shown in the catalog do not account for the "additional postage" notation in the indicia. The designs are slightly changed when extra value is added.

Thanks for confirming. Actually, this could be only the "tip of the iceberg."

I think I have enough meter cut squares from the 1930's and 1940's in my collection that I could document enough material to do a significant update to the catalog previously posted (at least as far as LKU dates are concerned.)

However, I'm not a member of the Meter Stamp Society, and the reference in the catalog as to an electronic means to advise of corrections leads to a dead link. So I'm not sure how to advise the publisher as to any updates I may have (or if they even want to hear from a non-member about such things.)

It's nevertheless quite an interesting exercise and I find it absolutely fascinating to see how many different meter imprints were used through the years (and by whom) when, in the early days of meters, most were probably thought to be less than collectible.

WT1, if you go to the Meter Stamp society website and dig around a bit, they have a submission form that you can download and submit with scans of the document. I would imagine that you need not be a member and being as Meters are their realm, any information provided to them would be welcomed.

I have emailed the Meter Stamp Society and apparently they would welcome my submissions when updating their next edition of their Meter Catalog. Now I'm trying to pull together the data that would be helpful and I came across an interesting item.

The scan below is a meter that I thought would match the listing in their catalog (posted earlier in this thread) under Type DD2 and Meter No. 5698 from New York, NY, which (according to the catalog on page 343) corresponds with Lerner Shops use of that meter number from 1940-1947. HOWEVER, this meter example shows a prefix as Meter No. 110.5698 instead of just Meter No. 5698. Would this be the same listing? Why the prefix? The catalog omission is that they have no previous reports of a meter in a 9-cent denomination as shown here.

Do I have this right or am I missing something?
