We have a guy that shows up every once in a while at our meetings..he was a stamp dealer for 40 years so perhaps you can just imagine what he accumulated from estates over the years..i think he just comes to show his stuff and gloat...last time he came he had U.S. covers that I have only seen in auction catalogs..1870's rates to Europe and on and on...last night he bought in an Ireland collection and let us know Ireland is among the most difficult if not the most difficult country to collect and then he proceeded to show us why..he had hand made pages notated with all the different printings from different printers and the differences in the overprints and he had them in blocks or more to show that they were the actual stamps they claimed to be and on and on..someone asked if he would sell it..he was not too interested but said a collection like that would bring 10 to 15 thousand on the market...all I could think of was the Pain involved in identifying all those different varieties..by the way he did not build the collection...he bought it from the widow of a fellow he used to sell stamps to..enough said !

Sounds to me like he enjoys showing off other peoples hard work to make himself look big. But then again I may be wrong.

I hear ya there Phil. I see to many people that have more money than they know what to do with and then on the other hand I see people that "think" they have more money than they know what to do with. Like I said I have alimited budget and I try like heck to live by it each month. When I cash my checks I get all my bill money put into money orders and then I see what I have left. If I have enough to do some shopping Great if not there is always next month know what I mean.

Gussy those stamps were protected by mounts..they were the real early ones where they took the stamps of Great Britain up to about 1913 and overprinted them. Ireland does issue some very attractive modern stamps !!
