Also remember that not all items are as cut and dry as the inverted Jenny. If anyone here follows articles and threads over at the VSC there are many items on ebay that are improperly identified that would fool even the very knowledgeable collectors. In my collection I have a few forgeries and I sold a set of the British Guiana Ships that were forgeries on ebay. I clearly indicated in bold lettering and in more than 3 places that they were fakes or Forgeries and they sold quickly as this is a very collectible area for some people. They did not bring in what I was hoping but they did OK. Everyone who suspects a forgery / Fake should do their due diligence and either notify the seller or ebay as you never know when the first bid might be a fledgling collector looking to jump start a collection, as I hope someone would save me from being a target.

It was stated earlier in this thread that a single genuine used copy of the Jenny invert really exists. Is this true? If so, what position number is that stamp?

Matt, It is true that Mrs Green accidently used one invert stamp to psot a letter to her husband, Col. Edward Green. The PF database shows pictures of 94 of the 100 stamps and all are unused. Since all the pictures postdate June 8, 1936 (the date of the death of Col. Green) the used copy would have to be one of thos positions. The positions are 49, 79, 99, 74, 66 and 76. Position 99 is known to exist unused, positions 66 and 76 were part of the McCoy block of 4 stolen in 1955 and position 74 is believed to be the vaccuum cleaner copy. Therfore it appears that the used copy must be either 49 or 79.

Thanks Russ. That's very interesting. I'm guessing that there isn't much known about the used copy?

Does anyone even know what the cancel looks like? It sounds as if it has never turned up at auction either over the past 90 plus years.

I'm sort of sad that it got taken down. I was curious as to how much it would have gone for. But I guess if that one was allowed then 10,000 other misrepresented fakes would have been popping up all over ebay - even more so..

If you want a a fake Inverted Jenny that bad, you can always bid on this one. At least there is no question in either the ebay listing on the stamp specimen that it is a fake:
