I thought it looked fine too. It's PSE certified - they say it's reperfed on all sides, with margins added. I couldn't tell myself.

How exactly does one add margins to a stamp w/o it being totally noticeable?

They did a very nice job and the stamp has a nice appearance.

However if you zoom up the image (hitting ctrl and '+' keys) you can see the seams, especially on the right side near the right bottom corner. At the left bottom corner, the brownish red ink on the added margins does not match the color of the original brownish red cancel on the stamp.

This is a stamp that has to be examined very carefully when looking to buy one. I had occasion to look at one just yesterday that had a cancel cleaned and had been regummed. It would have fooled many people, especially in the usual light at a stamp show. They are also both valuable and popular enough to be repaired when necessary.

Re:Adding margins:
There are some people who are VERY skilled at repairing paper objects, particularly in Europe at the present time. There is also a long history of people having that skill existing in the past. Many expert repairs would fool even fairly advanced collectors unless they have a 10X or stronger magnifying glass and know what to look for, or dip the stamp and know what to look for.

I'm sure that you know that stamp has been reperforated on two sides (right and bottom), I_Love_Stamps

Thought I'd ressurect this old post-

I have a #37 in about the same condition too. I'll have to upgrade these this coming year.

My #38 I inherited from my father's collection

a bit off center, but has a hint of a red cancel and the black cancel is not overly heavy.
