Here is a scan of a piece of Postal Stationery from SAAR, H&G # 8, issued 1921, a area in Germany, controlled by a lot of countries over the years, and was independent for a few of them. While this is NOT terribly rare, it is a good example of SAAR postal stationery. Anyone else out there doing SAAR items? Please post.

Enjoy!

Bob

The close up of the impression is appreciated.

So here's the lad that delivers the postcard....

That box on his back, is a set of Stanley Gibbons SOTW
(Stamps of the world)

This young fellow, lived about 12 Km from me,
and he wrote home to put Mum at ease in 1924.

He was aboard the Barque "Parmelia" in Germany
where he franked his postcard with a SAAR stamp
and he was heading off to Russia.

How exciting!

(A "Barque" is a three masted sailing ship, the poms
addressed any odd shaped ship as a "Bark" as was Cook's
Endeavor)

The aux postmark rectangle 295 remains a mystery

I noticed also, he wrote the postcard in
(sic) "Boenos Ayres" (Buenos Aires) and didn't post it
till he got to Germany :)

Unusual "double ring" CDS postal hammer
advocating the purchase of charity stamps

Possibly a link to the 1933 tragedy of a 72m high gas container
exploding, and flattening the suburb of nuenkirchen.

68 dead, 190 injured
