Heres three types I can define..there must be more 1)the stamp collector who buys only the stamp he needs..sez, I dont have many duplicates when you ask about a swap ! 2) the show dealer..he does not want to bother with 50 cent and dollar transactions..UNLESS you sit at his table for a long while and build up a stack. 3) I am one of the type 3's...can not resist a bargain..offer me a pickup truck full for 75 dollars and I have accepted..storage can be a problem..but the type 3 can help with the low value stamp that every collector needs ..its possible I have a single stamp that will keep the type one collector from buying a complete set just to get one stamp..i feel there is a need for all 3 types...sooner or later type 1 and 3 are going to have to go to the dealer when we Really need a particular item !!

Phil

I have some damaged stamps in my collection. I will give them a safe home until or if I find a better one. It then gets passed on to my children who think they are great! If a stamp is damaged so badly that it has to go in the trash I do so reluctantly especially if it is older and may have some history behind it. Maybe I am actualy a type 3.5 ? naw still a 3

I am a type 3-4. I usually wait to find a deal, but if I really want a stamp I will pay usually whatever it takes to get it.

I'm probably a number 3. I just ran across a guy on ebay who broke up a dealers stock. There are a dozen or so lots with hundreds of $0.20 stamps each. I'm having to fight to keep from bidding on them all. Why do I need thirty copies of Germany 1021? Tha answer is - I don't! But my pointer keeps drifting over to the ebay icon and I keep having to slap myself!

BTW - I always cull out damaged stamps and send them on to their great reward unless they catalog over a dollar or so. It helps to keep the gene pool cleaner and I won't even give them away anyway.
