The other day I was looking for a place to buy some mounts. This place called Subway Stamp Shop Inc just happen to be in Altoona, Pa. Since it wasn't that far of a trip I made a visit today. What a nice place, it so happens they manufacture a lot of stamp supplies at this location. I had the grand tour of the stock room and the manufacture that is located on the second floor.

Their products range from the collection cards to to album pages and a host of other stamp paper products. It was nice to actually see them doing the printing on vintage machines. If you have ever seen some of the G&K Products then this is the place they are made.

Later I even met the owner Virginia who took some time out of her day to chat with me about stamps and kids. I found it interesting that they still put postage stamps on anything they ship through the USPS.

They sell mostly stamp supplies so I bought some Showgard Mounts and a few together things including some MHN stamps. I topped off my visit by buying a Scott USA 2006 USA Specialized Catolgue for $18. It might not be the newest edition but it was far less than a 2008 edition.

If you are ever in Altoona, Pa make a visit I think you will find it interesting. Of course they sell world wide and claim to be the largest mfg and seller of stamp products worldwide.

They moved to Altoona from New York City in 1994. At the time the cost to buy their large building in Altoona was about the same as two months of rent near the Wall Street section of Mew York City.

I know of the company from their advertisements in Linn's. It sounds like a wonderfull place. I only wish I had a stamp shop still open locally.

I've never been there but I've purchased quite a few items over the years from them, never had any problems, actually waiting for some things from them right now.

Mkfarm Subway was in Hartford for the show as they usually attend the large shows..nothing wrong with a 2006 specialized U.S. album its got all the good stuff in it....at some point why not visit American Philatelic Society Hq. in Bellefonte its not far from Altoona...the folks will show you around ! I thought Subway was nuts moving to the boondocks in Altoona but for their mail order business it was a smart move..you should see when they come to the big shows..they come with a tractor trailer...thats how much stuff they bring to the shows...

MKFARM:

I've purchased a few items from Subway, and have always been pleased with their service. They do put stamps on packets they mail.

Incidentally, I picked up a 2008 hardcover edition of the Scott Classic Catalogue (world to 1940, our Commonwealth to 1952) at my local stamp dealer for $74.99 Cdn.

It's a great reference. You got a great deal for $18 US and you'll get many hours of use out of it.

Cheers!

David

I shop with them for most of my non-Scott related material and they have always scored 10 out of 10 in my book. I'd love to go on a shopping spree there some day. It sounds like you had a great experience mkfarm.
