I can't comment on rarity, but I would figure washing it wouldn't be a problem. The only concern is fugitive inks, but I highly doubt they would have used that on a bill. Try a soak in a cold water/sea salt solution followed by a distilled water rinse soak and see what happens. If you have improvement with that, you could redo the process adding a first soak with warm water/green palmolive dishsoap, then the same two steps I mentioned a second ago.

I would figure a noticeable improvement to the overall appearance.

Have a good one,

Skilo54

Rod I know nothing technically about these, in terms of number issued or any different types, but I believe they are not uncommon. I found a few amongst my Grandparent's effects, and they are fairly readily and cheaply available on ebay (that being one of my personal default measures of whether an item is "rare" or not )

Nicole - post a new topic and a description of your stamp - even better a picture - and I'm sure someone can help you.

Went to have a look at mine (I have 3d, 6d and 1/-) I see they are a slightly different design, also De La Rue. Yours says second series. may be that's the difference?

Hey guys, could someone please help me, im looking to find out about these stamps.

I couldn't find one of them on the internet anywhere..

Also, are the colors a printing mistake or are they ok?

Is there any such stamp as the black one, because I couldn't find it anywhere, especially that price..

Thanks. Nicole. :)

Hi Nicole,
these are called "Machins"
you would be best, by starting a new thread on SCF
"GB : Machin query"
Lots of English collectors here

The 1/9d (1 shilling and ninepence)
is a predecimal machin

They live in 1967
