I got these USSR stamps Scott4575,4823,4824,4841-2) on paper in a batch of Eastern European kiloware
I bought awhile back. Most Soviet stamps I've got are CTO. However, these are the few I've seen which aren't. So, I can't decide whether or not to soak them.
I just got finished soaking a batch of Romania from the communist years. The glue on the back was horrible (as bad if not worse than US self adhesives). I'd hate for these to get damaged.
What do you think?

Most of these will come of fine if you are patient. The glue on some soviet stamps can be extra sticky & require some peeling assistance, but most of the time the stamps will come off very easily. Even in worst cases it's not as bad as with some Romanian stamps. LOL.

Some Soviet stamps have more or less "fugitive inks", so play it gentle with temperature of water.I've ruined few stamps myself by using too hot water (for example those yellow bordered art stamps are somewhat sensitive).

I would leave alone,
I think one can source enough Russian stamps
off paper, to allay any requirement to soak
Some have nice cancels.

Romanian and Russian stamps are amongst the few
countries I do not wash off the gum because
of the points mentioned here.

As a general rule with soaking stamps is to use damaged stamps to experiment with on issue that we are not familiar with.

All new Aussie issues I treat this way. We have to these days as many new issues are made with anti stamp collector gum.

Nicely trimmed paper around a stamp looks OK to me in a collection.

My 2c worth. KGV.

I would leave the stamps on paper, just to show they are not CTO's.

If you want to separate the yellow stamps from the white stamps (you have two blocks like this) slowly rip the envelope paper between the stamps. If you try to use scissors you will most likely clip some perfs. Now you will have some stamps that will be easier to display in your album.

They're going to stay "as is". I like the idea of the postmark. At home in my other stamp collection, I've got a few post communist Azerbaijan stamps on paper (courtesy of a former girlfriend) which still have the old Soviet cancellation.
