Hi folks, new to your forum. My parents gave my 10 yr (almost 11) old my old US stamp collection that I held from the mid 70's up until about 1980. Without buying completely new albums, is there a way to purchase (or maybe download?) update pages to become current? I think my old album is a Harris? has the statue of Liberty on the front. Reccomendations? Thanks! Dave

Welcome Dave,

Harris did issue packets of pages for US albums for the years you are missing.

Here's the current link for H.E. Harris (which is now a division of Whitman Publishing):

The problem is that the annual supplements are $8.95 each and since you are apparently missing 30 years worth of supplements, the cost to buy a new album will be much more economical than trying to find all of the old supplement pages.

Many on this site have suggested that the Liberty Album is nowhere near as nice as the Mystic Stamp Company's Heirloom Album (in 3 volumes), which can be had (in it's entirety) for $38.95 at this link:

For more information on the Mystic Stamp Album, I suggest you look at this previously posted thread:

Welcome Dave.

At 10 going on 11, I'm not convinced an album is the best approach right out of the gate. You might want to consult some of these online resources to see if they offer anything that might peak your child's interest.

Good luck!

Steve

Thanks to all- yes, I guess 31 years of updates would be quite a lot. I think he would like an album because he could stick the stamps (hinges!) where they go in the book- I think he would like that. Part of my old collection is a box of jumbled stamps- most used, some not. I liked the 10 Low cost ways to start collecting stamps on one of those links. He has a birthday next month... Thanks again, Dave

Welcome to SCF, Dave!

The topic of getting kids involved in philately seems to be popping up more often, lately. Even my club (Oregon Stamp Society) had a guest last night who spoke about the topic.

Have you tried contacting any stamp clubs in your area? I'd be willing to bet you'll find something your child can participate in that will both give(him/her) a source of stamps and give you the opportunity to see what resources might be available.

In regards to updating your album, it would almost certainly be cheaper to buy a new album that to update your old one or even print out new pages.

As an example, I see these Scott Minuteman albums on ebay all the time for very little $$ ...

Auction for album through 1996 with stamps! ... current price $10.50
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1996-Scott-...em35b5de39b1

Used album through 1987 ... buy it now $19.00
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Scott-Minut...em336c969a03

There are so many options out there, it might be overwhelming. Perhaps when all is said and done, you may decide to get back into stamp collecting!

Brian
