hi,my name is miko and here is a 1888 british north borneo 1c stamp of coat of arm.there are few varieties on this stamp such as missing dot,the "yang" word,extra colours on the boat,beach and sky also an extra leg for the lion(lion with 5 legs now)lion face looks difference too.is this a new discovery?what happend to this stamp actually?i would like to know.photos are below.help is always be appriciated.thank you.

Have you checked the perforations on this. Forgeries exist with perf 11-1/2 rather than perf 14 (which they should be on a genuine stamp). Just counting the perfs on your scan makes me think a perf 14 would have a couple more teeth (I have both genuine and forged stamps from this set. Genuine show 17 teeth to a vertical side, the forgeries, fewer). I would guess you have a forgery, so it would, of course, differ in various ways. Since these are not rare stamps, forgeries must have been made for mailing purposes or even for cheap sale to collectors.

I have to agree with Modern's idea about it being a forgery.....a lot of stamps have been forged specifically for the packet trade.

yup,i think your right and I have to agree with you modern.i thought I found a new discovery on a variety stamp.unfortunely its not.

Welcome to the Forum Miko. Even if it is a forgery you can still use as a teaching aid for others that may not know how to tell the difference between a real and a fake.
