most of us have heard about the fellow who released his beloved exotic animals and then took his own life...he was deeply in debt but his love of animals came first...in the stamp collecting world I am not saying there are people who would take their lives...but I am sure there are extreme collectors who would put stamps before butter ! Comments welcomed !

Yesterday, my wife went shopping with my daughter for shoes. I was working.
When I returned home the shoes were outside the house in their box.
I shouted to my wife if I could have the shoebox for my covers.
She said yes.
A while later she asked me if I liked her new shoes. I answered that I hadn't seen them.
She asked me if I'd taken the shoebox.
I said yes.

Philb, over the decades the saddest and most foolish human behavior seen, involved the purchasing of new issue Stamps - not putting outright Home Ownership first. Their assumptions of financial success with purchased Stamps eventually caused the loss of the home.

I mostly just collect for fun and I must admit that I am a bit of a completest so if I need that one to finish a set I will only make the purchase AFTER consulting the powers that be - my Wife.

I always liked Rumpole's (of Rumpole of the Bailey) description of his wife . . . "she who must be obeyed."

Shoeboxes seem to be as rare as rocking horse dung these days..at least where I live. I work with 10 women and none of them have any shoeboxes to spare

Maiden,

You are lucky to be working with 10 women [or unlucky, as the case may be], but there is an easy way to get shoeboxes.
Go to a shoe shop.
There are two ways.
1]. [This is a bit more expensive and may take a little longer]. The next time you need a pair of shoes, just ask if they have any spare shoe boxes, they will nearly always have some and it saves them clogging up the garbage or dragging them to the re-cycling station.

2]. Just be cheeky. The next time you pass a shoe shop, just go in and ask. They can only say 'No'. But I'll bet most of the time they will happily give you one. [Take an interest in some of their goods].

And there you have it.
Shoeboxes on a shoestring !

I must be one of the few females on this planet that does not like shopping for shoes. I must admit, though, that when I MUST get new shoes, I always check out the boxes first. Nothing beats a good, sturdy shoe box for stamps.

Make that two Spanishmoss. I own 4 pairs of running shoes, one pair of steel toed work book, a pair of sandals, a pair of black slack shoes and a pair of black heels. the later three are at least 10 years old.

On the subject of stamps. I can see how one could get carried away. I have done so latetly on forum auctions. I'm to the point now that I really should just be buying stamps to complete sets or fill pages but I just can't help myself.
