When is it alright (If ever), in your opinion to soak stamps from a FDC.
I have found that some of the stamps I am looking for are more readily available and, in some cases cheaper when I look for them through the FDC sections.
Tell us what you think?

There are some US FDCs which are very common (from about 1946-1980) which have no cachet or a common Artcraft cachet. If you would rather have the stamp for your album than the FDC, I can see no harm in soaking one of those.

I agree I bought a lot of FDC's and thought they were quite underwelming until I realised they had stamps on them that I neededso I soaked them off and all was good.

I too do it. I like stamps on my album than on FDCs and in most cases they come cheap or equal to the stamps. Its a value for money idea because I always get someone to buy the blank cover in ebay.

It seems like a simple choice to me - If you like/need the stamp more than you like/need the FDC then you soak it.

I haven't done it but I see no reason I would not do it if the stamp by itself was what I really wanted or needed. I have stamps in my collection thatI know have come off FDC's . I think the key is: it's your collection as long as your happy who cares!

I would have no problem taking stamps off mass produced like artcraft, it would be harder for me to take apart one that some other collector took the time to put together.

You paid for it, so it's yours to do with what you want. There's no rule book.

Bandiccot:

I soaked a Costa Rica souvenir sheet off a FDC for my used collection. It's the only way I could get a used copy.
