1. R26 ? Double transfer ?

2. R46 ? Imperforated or Scissor cut ?

3. Can someone show what a pane of these R46 stamps looked like ?

Thanks.

I'm no expert but I'll give you my opinion.

Concerning the R26, it looks so bad and ugly it could be but I don't know. It looks more smeared than a double transfer. I love it!

The R46a has nice large margins so I would believe that its legit. In addition, most imperf sheets were cut with a pair scissors. I don't think the stamp is trimmed if that's what you meant.

Sorry, I meant Imperforated or cut off perforations. There is a Part Perf listed and as shown in the pair, but there is no listing in Scotts specialized of an imperforate under R46.

Stallzer I'm seeing a listing in Scott for a R46a imperf, and your copy has some amazing margins.

1) Way to grainy to tell anything. Where are you looking?
2) R46a with margins like that, I would say . top and bottom could be trimmed but highly doubtfull.
3) R46b

stallzer,

What reference book are you looking in? Even my 1906 Scott's has the 25 cent Insurance Imperf listed. (valued a t 25 cents). As is the part perf (R46b).

Second stamp is definitely a legit R46a. A very nice example too, were it not for what appears to be a thinned out UR corner.

On the first stamp, egads that image is ugly. No way to tell if there's any DT anywhere in there. Either you're pushing the scanner beyond its optical resolution and the digital interpolation is wrecking it, or you have the sharpness cranked WAY too high. Turn off autosharpening. It's a very bad thing.

Actually as bad as it is, that's how the Stamp looks. I won the others (46's) on an ebay auction and the seller included the first Stamp as a "Bonus" and it was labeled "Double Transfer" so it was a freebie. The reason I went after the lot was the Imperf.

I'm not talking about the inking of the stamp, which can get quite muddy, but all the digital artifacts in that image. Something is wrong with either your scanner or your settings.

Same setting and scanner in all my scans above. Usually the scanner I have takes wonderful images.
