I'm trying to ID some of the "valuable" stamps family members told me I might have inherited with the family collection. I figure maybe I'll find a $5000 stamp and trade it for 20,000 $.25 stamps. That would keep me busy for months and months!

As expected, I haven't found anything worth more than $1. This was the most potentially interesting stamp... at least it is a cool example of a fancy cancel. Would I be correct that it is a #206?? That is the closest I can find in Scott Standard. Does anyone have any guesses or knowledge on what the cancel might be? A "W"?

I would say you have a 206. The colour is especially specific, because the 206 is gray blue whereas the earlier issues were all ultramarine. And though you scan looks a little washed out, it's definitely not ultramarine.
As for your cancel, I'd say it's an E laying on it's back. Postmasters weren't always particular about administering the cancels straight up.
And Welcome to the site. You've come to the right place.

jamesw - Thanks for the info. Now that you mention it, that cancel really does look like an "E".
