Here is a scan of the Portola Revalued 4 cent Lincoln Postal Card (Scotts UY 18 [reply portion]). The 2nd image is that of the regular card (UX-48 without the uprating cancel).

This card was approved by the USPS, but since it was NOT overprinted by the USPS printing office, Scott's and other no longer list the item in their catalog(they did for several years however).

This card is considered "rare" by most postal stationery collectors.

I was fortunate to pick it up in the early 2000's to add to my collection.

I thought that some of you may have never seen one of these, so I would share.

I, for one, haven't seen that before. However, in just looking it up on ebay, here's a listing for an unused example:

http://www.ebay.ph/itm/ws/eBayISAPI...360396309757

The description refers to it being "Revalued at 5c by authority of the postmaster in Portola, California in 1968. The local electric company needed cards with the new 5c rate and none were available."

It also refers to there being a write-up on the variety in The Postal Card Specialist magazine. I wonder if anyone has that write-up. It would be an interesting addition to keep with this Reply Card variety.

FYI, That price on ebay was WAY underpriced. Someone got a great deal! In the early 2000's this item was going for estimated $200 for a used (cancelled)copy, mint (unucancelled) around $100. See, somertimes you do get good deals on ebay!
