Hello From AZ

New to the forum and have already had a few good replys to questions.

I have finished entering my departed "father-in-laws" (we are not married (been there, done that, won't do that again)) collection.

Well over 20,000 stamps. Most U.S.A. have a used and a mint, front of book, back of book,everything. World countries are many but not all.

Collection stops in the 1960s - 1970s.

How can I share with you folks??? I am retired and do have some spare time but scanning every stamp would take years!

Should I post a list (20,000 will be very long)
Or just respond to requests for certain stamps/pages.

How about just picking some of your favorite issues/subjects/sets and showing them to us. Sounds like you have an extensive collection!.

Hello Jayvin, welcome!

A scanner works best for stamps to show the details. To see an expensive stamp you need to scan at 200-600 dpi. A camera will not do it justice or show details enough unless you are a professional photographer.

Then you need to crop the photos down to just the stamp(s).

The reduce the image to posting size 100KB on thois forum.

OR, use a photo josting service site such as Flickr, photobucket, imageshack to upload to and then just put a link here on the gorum.

Remember that not everyone has high speed connections. Use the photo resizing tool (click Reply To Topic link above right).

To show and share and comment and question is what we all do. Ask away, comment away.

Just scan a stamp relevant to the thread topic or if you have them in an album or stock pages you can just scan the page. Welcome and I'm looking forward to seeing your collection!

Also, I'm also a "Jay" so your name will be easy to remember. My name is actually Jeffrey but I'm a Jr. so J.J. got shortened to just Jay.

Since I do not collect (colorblind makes it difficult), I have no favorites. My interest was to get an electronic inventory.
He kept ledger books - stamp #, dealer, cost, date and value when purchased. He was an engineer and kept detailed notes. I am also an engineer and had to transfer that info into a database.

I do have a few stamps that need further clarification (ledger not matching album (stock book?). I will probably post pics of those when I get done with the inventory. I know I said I was done but still have a shoebox full of envelopes (of course sorted by country and year). I am assuming that these are duplicates and not good enough for his books.

Hope you guys/gals don't get upset by pics and questions as they come.
