Bandicoot...Look here mate, I came across a collection of GB QEll where the person had the same stamp MNH, Gutter pair, Block, Gutter Block, traffic light pair, traffic light block, cylinder pair, cylinder block, TTB in all the above forms if available, marginal strips with writting and all the above used if possible. The collection was in some 15 albums. Londonbus will confirm this as he had seen it before I started to break it up. It all depends on a personal preference as to how far you take it. So TTB is with or without gutter, TTB That is only my opinion, lets hear some more on the subject....Richard "G" |

I have just opened a Stanley Gibbons 2003 GB cat and take as an example 1436/9 MNH now a set of 4 is $8 but a set of 4 gutter pairs is $20. That piece of paper in the middle is worth 20%,,,,1095/8 single set of 4 $2 Gutter pairs $4.80 and trafic light gutter pair $7,50... Makes you think, Richard "G" |

What I am saying is got nothing to do with price. In fact I agree with you about the costing. All I am saying is IF you choose to, you could have 2 collections. One with gutters and one without there by they are different. |

Well that is a matter of personal choice, the collection I mentioned before he wanted the maximum attention so he put all versions together for a full affect that way a 4 stamp set could take 2/3 pages to complete. If somebody decides to collect just MNH or used, with no variations, thats also OK. This is where the stamp producing countries make money on poor philatelists. One phosphor line or two, on the left, on the right, in the middle etc. and of course if you are a keen collector you must gave them all. Then there is perf. gum. booklet, imperf x perf. no end to it. Ask Londonbus how much it would cot to buy ALL the GB to the end of the year....Frightening. Richard"G" |

Hi Folks......
Ah the definitions of collector lingo........
Tete Beche....opposite facing pairs. Gutter pairs....pairs with a gutter between.
The all encompassing collection.....collecting all possible varieties of any issue.
Again, none are wrong, none are absolutely correct.....all are collectible with equal collectible value. (not to be confused with SCV.)
And, you are correct Richard.....costs limit collections for all but the elite few.

Ok here is a reply from Stanley Gibbons in reference to what constitutes a Tete Beche pair. Quote: Dear Mr Trigg,
Strictly speaking, tete-beche refers only to stamps that are joined to each other. However, most collectors and dealers would also include such stamps that are seperated by a gutter margin as being tete-beche in the common parlance.
Yours sincerely, Robert Smith Stanley Gibbons Ltd |
