Just bought a Nook Color today, downloaded my first book (Stephen King's new one) and was wondering if there's anything cool stamp related available for it.
I'd love to see a Scott catalog on it. Already checked for that and it's not available though :(

In case any of you, like me, are still back in 2005 or somewhere in the misty reaches of history, here is a Nook Colour by Barnes and Noble book sellers. http://www.barnesandnoble.com/p/noo...e/1100437663I've seen people using a kinle oops, Kindle or some such animal but haven't had a chance to play with one myself yet. |

Mike -- a good friend of mine has a color Nook I've experimented with it quite a bit.
First, it will handle any EPUB file -- so any of the free books you can find online will work. Several have been mentioned here -- most of them from Google Books. Of course, they're older books (with expired copyright dates).
Also, you can read PDF files on the Nook. The only difference is you have to "scroll" PDF up and down as opposed to turning the page with left-right swipe. Or to put it more succinctly, pagination is better with EPUB than with PDF.
There is a freeware program CALIBRE that will convert any/all of the ebook formats. I haven't used it much, but enough to know it works.
Finally, there aren't many APPS for nook (or any other tablet) related to Stamps and Philately. The latest issue of AP had a list, but I haven't had time to research any of them.
The Nook is really cool -- I hope you enjoy yours.

What about a tablet instead of a nook? I went with a tablet becase when I went to look at the nook and kindle, I found out that they had limited memory and couldn't be upgraded. WHereas a tablet can still use nook and kindle apps. |

Ajnabii:
Tablets are definitely an option. I wasn't trying to debate tablet vs. e-reader. I think there's a market for both. And of course, price is a factor. Generally speaking, tablets are more expensive.
By the way, I have an iPad which as you say, has "limited memory and can't be upgraded." The Nook however has a slot for an SD card, so additional memory CAN be added.

Thanks Buckeye --- I have "Stamps of Canada" but I was thinking it came from Google; I forgot I found it on Gutenberg. --KS |

Actually, I think this old (ancient?) stamp books make interesting reading! And for those not having an ebook reader, you can get the book in 8 different formats including plain old text. |

There are PDF versions of the Scott catalog floating around with searchable text although most of them are outdated and come with dubious provenance.
It would be nice if Linn's would release every new edition in PDF format as it would not only substantially cut down on paper waste but also make information access far more convenient with text search and cross-platform access.
In any-case - other uses of a tablet include: reading and posting to your favorite stamp forum, checking out the latest issue of Linns Online, viewing PDF auction catalogs and review of your own digitized collection - to scratch the surface.
I have a 10.1" Android tablet and would rate it highly useful for collecting. |

We use Kobo e-readers here at my house. Like the Nook, it's can use open standard e-pub's unlike that other competitor from Amazon. Like others, if I could afford a decent table, that would be great for color ebooks. |

Quote: PANDA: It would be nice if Linn's would release every new edition in PDF format I think you're a little out of the loop, Panda. Linn's has been doing this for years. The PDF versions are available for free to any print subscriber. Or they have an e-subscription for a lower rate than the printed editions. https://subscribe.amospub.com/renew...aspx?pub=LSNKirkS |
