We have been discussing the various scams and rip-offs that abound on ebay. Including the nuts who think that because a stamp is 75 years old, it must be worth a fortune, and list it on ebay for a ridiculous sum. Along those lines, there is one seller who has been doing a despicable thing. Selling a "Huge collection of WW stamps". When you read the fine print, it seems that he is selling ONE stamp from a huge collection. I bought one, and even the one cheap Europa stamp was ripped. Rather than get into a feedback war, I am contemplation doing something else. Seller offers free shipping. So if I bid 6 cents, it costs him money to sell item! What do you guys think of that?

Joe1225us, after reading the site my thoughts were; The persons thinks each stamp WILL have a successful bid more than postage, sounds like a nut searching for peanuts. First seller for the stay away from list.

Actually it says on his page that he's charging $5 for shipping. I'd have moved on right there.

Sorry Joe, but he has in bold type, twice, that you'll receive ONE stamp. Don't know if he's changed his listing since you bought from him. And though he describes his collection as 'Vintage', I don't see anything vintage in the photo at all.

This auction has red flags all over it. Caveat emptor I'm afraid. We live and learn.

Why be concerned?
we are not ebay policemen,
let it go,
don't waste your time on something clearly of no interest,
try and focus on something positive would be my advice.

I'm not sure what you think he is doing wrong ? He clearly indicates that the sale is for 1 Stamp and free postage within the US and $5 worldwide. He is starting each auction at 1 cent, the lowest you can start one at. Always remember before bidding on anything on ebay, Bidstart, Delcampe etc. Read the terms and conditions of the sale. I myself have been guilty of not doing that so I just learned to lick my wounds and pay attention to the details. I agree with Rod, move away from this seller as I don't see any of his material being worthwhile as you obviously don't know what Stamp you will receive.

In recent dealings on ebay I see more and more buyers do not READ the entire listing. This leads to a lot of hard feelings and negative feedback. My advice is read the listing form top to bottom twice before you bid.

joe1225us,

Suggestions;
1. Take a deep breath
2. Cuss the seller for 6 minutes
3. Take a deep breath
4. Go outside and smell the roses.

To make myself more clear, yes he clearly writes IN THE DESCRIPTION that he is sending only one stamp. But the title makes it appear otherwise. More importantly, yes I realize he is expecting to sell the single stamp for more than ebay and Paypal fees and postage. In other words, he is trying to sell "Vintage" 75 year old stamps for at least a $1. When they sell 100 for $1. Is that not despicable!

BTW obviously I meant kill figuratively. My point was to cost him money, thereby making it unprofitable to be a scam artist.

This seller is not using the smartest business model selling at a potential loss on each item sold but at least it doesn't appear deceptive. I have not problem with listings like this or with over priced listings, I just don't bid. The ones that I have a problem with are the deceptive and preditory listings.

Why is it not deceptive! Guy is trying to sell 1 cent stamps for $1. Who will buy them? People who beleive that 'Vintage' stamps must be worth at least $1 each. In short, the unimformed.

The listing starts at $.01 with free shipping for one random stamp. Clearly stated. I agree that it is probably better to avoid this listing but I still fail to see where the seller is attempting to deceive anyone.

Another loon with a another get-rich-quick ebay scheme.

Private feedback is always a red flag for me.

Actually if you do an advanced search on closed auctions, once in a while someone bids the stamp up to 90c or so, but they usually sell at less than postage. Lose money on each transaction (but make it up in volume). Probably some kid who can steal postage at work.

Walk away.

-P
