Attn countries issuing peel and stick stamps...this is a strong suggestion , I dont even want a suggestion award...print separate issues of the peel and stick stamps with no gum for collectors..my son in law is in the printing business and I have an idea of what it costs when you print in volume..do you think those color flyers in the papers are expensive when you print in volume?..you could make huge profits selling no gum versions to collectors at 25 percent of face value..they will never see service on letters..its all profit...i received a bubble wrap package with a 22 cent U.S. lick and stick stamp and a 42 cent Minnesota stamp...the gum on the 22 cent stamp disolved in 2 minutes..i had to throw the Minnesota stamp away !

I agree with Phil. Many of the new Canadian's are peal and stick. It's make's it difficult to collect mint. And some a a real pain to soak off. Dianne |

if they were sold for less then enterprising individuals would invest in a glue stick. If they were to issue unglued then "completists" would now have to collect both varieties. Once you know which ones will not soak off, don't try! simply trim the paper neatly and put it in your album that way. |

I am a glue sticker from way back...i guess the practical answer is to cut off collecting before the peel and stick guys..mint or used its no fun with them.... |

Even the Germans are occasionally making peel-and-stick stamps now, but they're willing to pay the extra 7 pfennings a pane it costs to use a dissolving paper layer. The issues I've gotten soak off easily the old fashioned way. |

Then again, Germany has one of the highest number, per capita, of stamp collectors. David |

I have found this method to be very easy and doesn't damage any stamp if one is careful. I prefer Ronson lighter fluid, but the can of Zippo was only .99 at the local dollar store. Here is the adhesive stamp on a piece. Then a nice soaking with zippo fluid Stamp is easily peeled off of the paper, but when the fluid dries, it will be sticky again unless we use a piece of paper towel to gently rub the dissolved adhesive off. Then when the fluid in the paper of the stamp evaporates, the back of the stamp is not adhesive anymore and can be hinged in the album. Practice on common stamps, but it is very easy. Remember the fluid is volatile and flammable. Jim |

And remember, if you sniff enough of the fumes every stamp will look good . . . . but then so will your neighbor's ugly daughter.
That was a joke, please don't write the sponsors! |

Printing ungummed stamps for collectors will only create a new variety. |

I too like the older style of stamps but as we all know the new ones are here to stay. For the most part I don't take the stamp off of the paper on used stamps. I have not had any problems with the UN except of course for the 1974 Dove. If they issued a special collector stamp then it means I would have to buy both versions then. I agree that it would just create another variety. |

I just thought of something. What is really a pain is the new style book of stamps. The stamps are on both the front and back. Since they don't have a page separation you more or less have a stamp on both sides unless you peel one off to use. |

The only modern United States that I collect is air mail stamps. Mostly on covers to show rates from Texas. The singles for my album I keep on piece and cut the paper close (but not too close!).
