I wasn't sure what section to post my question regarding postmarks, but since the mark is on postage due stamps, I am here.

Are they names for the different markings? See photo #1, the circles. I have seen them on stamps before. I want to auction these off but want to get more information on them.

Also the second photo is a different type of postmark (I think) with the fat lines (2nd photo), and then there are the thin wavy lines (3rd photo).

Also, on the precancels, (Longview Texas, Chicago & Camden) are those the cities where the stamp came from?

Thank you for your help.

Yes, the cities on the precancels is the city of issue. The postage due precancels were used by the PO, as the postmaster / clerk just precancelled a bunch of the stamps and used them as need (therefore he didn't have to hand cancel the stamps after they were affixed. The two at the bottom, were just a handwritten form of the same thing (without a precancel device) by the postmasster (usually in a smaller office that did not have a precancel device. (I may be wrong on the last comment-- someone will correcct me if I am).

First scan is a double oval cancel. Second scan the "killer" part of a duplex cancel. Third scan is from a roller cancel, commonly used on large parcels and packages.

As to your question about precancel usage: Yes, the city/state name on the precancel would be the only location where mail with those stamps affixed would be accepted. Remember the concept of precancels was to aid in the processing of large mailings without having to cancel each stamp separately, so the usage was likely part of a mass mailing from a business entity.

Postage dues originated at the PO, for PO use. I don't beleive companies were authorized to use postage due stamps. Could be wrong... but, if that were the case, can you or I as an individual use postage due stamps as postage?

You are correct. Postage Due stamps would have be restricted for use by the US Post Office as a means for accounting for those mail pieces that lacked the proper postage. I was thinking in terms of regular postage stamps with precancel cities and towns that would have been used by business mailers.
