This just arrived stuck in album, I knew what it was, you? What country features a zebu, a travellers tree, and a lemur climbing on somebodys grave headstone?

Quote: Why are there no Madagascar stamps after 1993? There are plenty of Madagascar stamps after 1993 -- however, the country underwent a name change (one of many during the history of Madagascar. Before 1993, it was called the Democratic Republic of Malagasy. After 1993, it was called the Republic of Madagascar. |

Did SG perhaps move the listings after 1993 elsewhere? Is there an index in SG that might list other locations in the catalog where stamps of that area can be found? For instance, the Scott catalog has 2 listings -- one under Malagasy Republic, and another under Madagascar (for British issues). |

Stanley Gibbons 2005 catalogue Madagascar ends at SG1229 (1994) flowers Malagasy republic ends at SG906 (1992) anti aids campaign. Appendix stamps are listed (issued in excess) Surely there must be some stamps on board mail from Madagascar as we speak? Agreed a lot (as the ebay stamps) look a bit dodgey. This image from "bear stamps" show 1999 "not listed" yet 2001 attract a catalogue listing in the 2000's Perhaps Gibbons is having an issue with genuine issued stamps |

You need to update your SG catalogues. In SG SOTW 2010, Madagascar stamps are listed 1889-1957, 1992+ (including a column of Appendix stamps). The latest issue shown is for 2007. The ebay stamps above fall in the Appendix stamps. Malagasy Republic issues are shown separately, 1958-1992, but the SG numbering continues and is continued by the Madagascar stamps. |

As an example of the problem Gibbons may have had, is this fellow, clearly a "printed on" cancellation, making it really a Cinderella, Gibbons is never going to list these. |

Yes they list CTO but the stamp above has a printed cancellation. There is a difference.

I'm still trying to understand the significance of the three things you mentioned. Is it just a random compilation of things only found in Madagascar, a hidden message, or a curse placed on anyone who might possess this stamp? |

SG seems to struggle with the stamps of non-Commonwealth Africa. The last edition of the standard SG catalogue covering Madagascar after independence [SG Part 13] was issued back in 1981. |
