Here is a small collection of postcards from the 1908 "Spooners Delight" series by J. Thomas. I imagine they were considered somewhat risque for their time. If anyone else collects these cards or others like them I'd like to see them posted here.

Edit: Topic changed from "Spooners Delight" Anyone? to facilitate future searches.

Thanks, Michael.

Here are two similar "spoon" items from the period.

I've never seen them before either. However, I did find this website that illustrates the entire series, which is quite substantial at 9 sets of from 3 to 6 cards each:

[edit] Also of note: Sixth scanned card in first post has a postmark of Metcalf, Illinois. In looking up that town, I just found that it has a population of 189 today. (Still has a post office, too!)

Such odd subject matter ... what is the history behind the term "Spooners delight"?

"Spooners Delight" is the name J. Thomas gave to this series of postcards -- similar to Hallmark naming a line of greeting cards.

I believe the term "spooning" in the early 1900s referred to the display of affection between a couple, usually during their courtship. This would be consistent with the subject matter of the cards displayed and those at the link that wt1 has posted.

This is a card I inherited. I think it fits the "spooning" theme, but is more about boasting to a friend than sending romantic wishes... The card's a little the worse for wear, but there's a nice clear Dublin cancel.
