From an article in the August American Philatelist An 1862 guide to stamps states "stamp collectors are looked upon as hopelessly but harmlessly insane on the subject ".

From the Red Book by Mao Tse-Tung:

"Stamp Collecting is a frivolous pursuit and does nothing to contribute to the Revolution."

Glad that murdering commie is dead... our hobby is flourishing in China!

Most of the time I enjoy working with my stamps, but every
now and then I'll ask myself "Why am I doing this? This is
insane!" Thankfully, those moments of sanity don't come often.

Yeh I kinda go through the same thing when I spend an entire evening working on stamps when I should be cleaning or ironing or something; but then I remind myself of how hard i've worked all my life and that the dust bunnies and wrinkled clothes will still be there tomorrow.

Stamp collecting has given me a whole new outlook on life.
