Check this out. I was looking up some books on Archive.org and found a virtual Scott's standard postage stamp catalog! I think it's really cool and for some reason wt1 came to mind as I thought you might appreciate this as would anyone into old stamp literature. Here is the link.

I like the in-depth info on the early banknotes, Washington varieties and watermarks. Fascinating and still relevant and if I dare say a bit easier to understand.

I had previously downloaded the edition on my computer for reference, however, being that it's from 1940, you have to keep in the back of your mind that there are some subsequent changes to the catalog numbering system, etc., that do not relate to the present.

I imagine we all wish we could acquire some of those classic stamps at the prices listed in that catalog. (Check out page 32, where MNH Zeppelins are valued at $8, $15 and $22 respectively! (Of course if you were to factor in inflation, the numbers would be $129, $242 and $359 in today's dollars.)

Nice book / catalogue

It is a collectors items all on its own.

I am not sure but I have heard that collecting old stamp catalogues is picking up on the market (?) I guess for nostalgia's sake. <G>

I have a 1938 Gibbons catalogue that is a thick volume and covers the world. Interesting to see all the prices back then but, as wt1 stated, the wages would have been no great deal those days anyway with the inflationary rate and the normal collector would still be struggling to get those 'rare' and elusive items.
