Hi, I have a question. I have some mint blocks and singles and they have numbers on selvage. But this stamp has two numbers on it. What does that mean?


What is the term for the number?

That stamp (Scott #1335) was printed by the photogravure method and contained multiple plate numbers (six to be exact) and what you have scanned is a plate number single with two of the plate numbers showing on the selvage.

Here's an example of how a complete plate number block would have looked for that issue:
