Can anyone elucidate further:

1965: 2, 5r, 6rup, 6rdn, 7dn, 8, 8e, 10, 20, 30dn

I see:

1965, 1280 2c (Frank Lloyd Wright), 1283B 5c Washington Redrawn, 1284 6c Roosevelt with prec up, and again with prec down. Then 10 is 1286 Jackson, 20 is 1289 Marshall and 30 is 1291 Dewey (a horizontal, hence the "dn" notation).

But what is 7? There is no 7c in this series, or even any at all that I can see in 1965 - 1970. The first appears to be 1393D. This is a horizontal stamp, so the prec being "dn" makes sense, but it is 1970, not 1965 ...

Then the first 8 as listed can be 1285 Einstein. But 8e? Is that Eisenhower, and if so - 1394 or 1395?

Can anyone confirm my interpretations -- I'd just like to know if I am right that Brunell mixes years and stamps from so far apart in Scott.

These particular examples are from Waterbury, CT, but I found very similar ones repeated in various places/states.

Thanks again.

Oh, thank you! I hadn't thought in terms of subject-matter, with them all being famous WMs. I shall have to try to think more laterally in future!

PS A few more conundra, mostly to do with Wash-Franks:

1) 9c from 1917: 9, 9inv, 9dblinv, 9dbl(NI), 9trpl(NNI)
I get most of it, but what is (NI), (NNI)?

2) 13c from 1917: 13dbl(NdiagD) ? Cf. 3c Stuart from 1932: 3sdbl(NdiagD).

3) 15c from 1917: 15(p11x11x10x11) ? A four-dimensional stamp?

and finally:

4) 15c from 1922: 15dblw/513 - 15 with double precancel and an apple green #513? How can that be or what am I missing?

Cheers.

double NI is [once normal once inverted] etc... The 11x11x10x11 is SC514a [error perf 10 at bottom only] The 1922 is a double, one with the electroplate and one with the 513 handstamp precancel. BTW - the catalog is amazing in its comprehensiveness. If I were starting out in precancels, I would consider designing my collection to match his listings. Alas, its too late now!
