If you looked at my other post
https://goscf.com/t/20449

This copy had a note next to it stating "repaired?".

Is the line across the face considered a repair?
Centering about a 70?
Can a stamp have a control mark and what looks like a red cancel?

Additionally, this stamp feels much thicker that the other #39.

This one is a wreck, but it actually is an interesting rarity.

**can't post the link to the direct search because it's too long, but look at lots 287 and 288 in this sale: http://www.siegelauctions.com/dynam...?sale_no=863

The crossed red lines I discovered to be what are called "presentation copies" of the actual color proofs completely perforated and I also believe it was never meant to be circulated. If you have any doubts by all means look it up look it up for your self as it's very interesting! I posted the link to the information in one of the "Blackjack" threads. I believe it was a thread that I started actually "My new #73 Blackjack" or some-such wording. If you use the search function and use any of these words: Blackjack, blackjacks, #73, my new #73 you'll most likely get it on the top of the listings. -Cheers

Just spent 2 hours looking for that info. I also found a PF cert for a #39 with a presentation mark.

If you get a chance take a look at the other #39 thread. Since the cancel is over the missing scroll could that be a bad transfer?

I just purchased one of these from a retired stamp dealer. Per info he gave me, there were just 2 panes of US Scott #39 that were used for presentation (the only other example of this usage was US Scott # 38). They were marked with the red ink crosses to prevent use as postage. Yours appears to have been either used as postage or most probably had an erroneous cancel added to pass stamp as a significantly higher valued used copy ($10K). These are included in the 2012 Scott Specialized catalog valued at $2,900 in VF, which is significantly over the other 2003-2005 Siegel / Spinks-Shreeves auction sale references I could find on the internet.

On a positive note, this stamp looks convincing. I don't think it's an outright forgery. It's just a mess ...

I believe all four sides have been perfed/reperfed. There's no way this is a perf 15.5. Nothing about these perfs feels right.

If this is a 39, it's heavily modified. It could be a 39P that has been perfed and made to look like a 39 with presentation marks (easily faked) ... which would be a shame, imo, since a proof has quite a bit of value by itself.

Best case scenario is that you have a heavily modified 39 (fake perfs, cancellation, presentation marks, etc). It still presents well, but has no-where near the value of an authentic 39.

Worst case is that it's a heavily modified 39P, in which case it has even less value than the aforementioned.

I think it's worth $25 to have it certified by Weiss.

Brian

actually send it for the 5.00 ID with the caveat that if it is real then issue a cert.

The left and right margins have been added and portions of the design are painted in. The bottom margin looks like it has probably been added too. Not sure about the top perfs.

Here is that Black Jack thread with bfranton's "presentation" Black Jack. You stated previously that you looked for over 2 hours for it so thought I'd help you out a bit.

Start on page 4 and the following pages to see his

Here is the link to a prime example of a presentation proof-

here is a little snippet about presentation proofs on the right side of the document.

some more great information on different proofs and esoterica.
