Received a seemingly common Presorted Standard Stamp (Scott 4157) on a cover addressed to me by a local bank. Upon closer look, the stamp has the Plate Number V333, and while listed in my Scott Specialized Catalog, it offers no value but just indicates ( - ).

Does this mean that it is too new of a variety to have established a value, yet it is going to be different than the values listed for Plate Number V111 and V222? Are the V333 plate number stamp on cover a scarcer variety?

Also note the relatively poor registration of the colors and the "snowflake-like" blue background.

I suppose it's worth keeping on cover to show it's postal use.

At this point in time, I am guessing that there is sufficient information yet to determine value. Having said that, it may be that the reason there is not yet sufficient information to determine value is because it is more scarce than the others. Only time will tell.

I am jealous. I have had a hard time finding any of those with plate numbers, and not for lack of looking. Knowing where the plate number is, though will help.

wt1, the 2010 Durland supplement gives a $3 value for a strip of 5 of each of the plate numbers associated with this design.

The December 13, 2010, issue of Linn's Stamp News reported mint examples of plate no. V333 were "elusive" and reports of used examples were just starting to increase in frequency. A quantity of mint examples was reported two weeks later. Perhaps the supply had not stabilized yet when the catalog went to press. The 2012 Scott Specialized shows $2.50 for a mint strip of 5 and $1.75 for used singles (no price differentiation by plate no.).

Cheers, Robert

Thanks for the info. Must have been just a matter of the V333 variety having just come into use that it was referenced differently in the 2011 Scott Specialized.

Reviving this older thread as I just went through some examples and found a very similar stamp to the OP example. In fact, when compared to my other 4157 PNC V333, this is the only one with the big blue mis-registration. Almost like a kiss or double print throughout.
