I like the merchant marine and civil war stamps.
Why would the post office issue a stamp for a dog?
I thought mailmen had problems with dogs. :)

Because it was Owney! The Postal Mail Dog mascot of the US Railway Mail Service in the 19th century. He's even on display at the National Postal Museum. Here's his story:

Actually, I voted for the Edward Hopper stamp and it came in at #3.
