WARNING: Don't read this if you're eating.

This news article is about the Manhattan post office being overrun by rats that are making meals out of people's packages that contain brownies, candy or any other pastry or food items:

Just wonder why I have to read this article from a UK source. Maybe the USPS is trying to keep a low profile on such problems.

And just to add insult to injury, should you get a gnawed package delivered, there is no means for compensation either:

If you could only figure which post office, you could send yourself a Hersheys bar, poste restante. Sitting there for thirty days waiting for you to (not) pick it up would surely be enough time for the little buggers to find it, before it was returned to you.

On second thought, would you really want them to return a cover covered in rat spit?

British Post Offices once had a budget
for Cat food allowance.
Cats were employed to keep down the rats/mice.
