Hello all, today I found out the VA does not need stamps from other countries. So they can not use them. Does any one know of another organization who can use some extra stamps I have? I was hoping they would be of use for the Vets in hospitals. They are in good used conditions......... So if any one has an idea or know of some organization please let me know... Kinda discouraging when you try and do good... and they refuse the deed....

You could always try the boy scouts, lots of churches take in stamps and sell them as kilo ware. I know there are a few members here involved with junior stamp clubs that be happy to have them for there youth groups. I am sure you will find a home for them. |

Have you tried the Boy Scouts? If they are not U.S. stamps perhaps contacting the Red Cross equivalent of another country? I never had the problem as I have always given my foreign stamps to my friend in New York.

Stamps and supplies can be donated to help wounded veterans.
Donations may be sent to:
John M. Hotchner Stamps For the Wounded P. O. Box 1125 Falls Church, VA 22041-1125
John has always followed-up with a thank-you note every time I donated. I'm sure the vets would appreciate your kindness!
Happy New Year to all!

marko, are you talking about the Veterans Affairs National Stamp and Coin club in Tucson, AZ? I just made a donation to them 4-5 weeks ago and when I talked with them on telephone, they told me they could use all stamps. |

Try any of your local nursing homes. I frequent many in the closest town two to three times a month. There are many older vets in these homes that are "forgotten" by many. I have been going and doing the Story Corps program for the past year or so and they love it. I have found two in separate homes that collect stamps and I bring them plenty of US stamps off paper. Many of the older guys want to soak and sort, but they really cant so I do the soaking for them and let them do the sorting. I'm a vet myself and a disabled one at that so I know how we are often forgotten unless there is some holiday or tragic event that causes people to remember their patriotism.
When I was offered my 100% disability by uncle sam I turned it down. The lady there thought I was nuts (and even ordered a psych eval). The shrink asked me why I turned my money and benefits down. I exclaimed as long as I can walk, talk, and draw in air I can still work for what I get. I have been that was since I was little and watched my Grandfather whom served his country proudly get buried in what I would call a cheap paper suit (courtesy of uncle sam). They also placed a Three inch by five inch marker for his headstone. All these things he was told would be taken care of by the VA... Little did he know that in the end he still got the booby prize for serving.
Sorry to get on my soap box :( I just hate the way vets are treated. I spend a majority of my free time with my children attempting to help the guys and gals that served our country. So thank you from the bottom of my heart for wanting to assist our vets, and to those others that do as well Thank You also.

For Canadians on this forum, Oxfam Canada is a possible target for donating your stamps. http://oxfam.ca/stampoutpovertyAnd if you're an ebay seller, you can use the ebay Giving Works program to target a donation of a portion of your sales, from 10% to 100%. My favourite charity is the Blind Cat Rescue in North Carolina. http://www.blindcatrescue.com/Note that you can also donate as an ebay buyer, for items purchased through ebay.com (however, doesn't work with .co.uk, .ca, .de, etc). You can target specific individual charities, and you are given the option of adding a microdonation ($1 - $25) with each purchase that goes through ebay's invoice system. http://www.ebaygivingworks.com/donatenow.htmlRyan |

The Holocaust Stamps Project welcomes any of your unwanted domestic and foreign stamps. It's taken us 3 years to collect the first HALF MILLION of the 11 million we're striving to amass, to "honor every victim of the Holocaust, one stamp at a time". Thank you for your support! Holocaust Stamps Project, Foxborough Regional Charter School, 131 Central St., Foxboro, MA 02035 GOOGLE Holocaust Stamps Project for links to detailed info and a 12/25/11 Boston Globe article about it. |
