Hi Susan-- I'm sure it's a rarity for any of us to send a message to someone from Molokai! Welcome, Welcome!

Do you collect the world, just US, just old Hawaii? Or some people collect "topicals" which might be boats on stamps, or trains or whatever they want.

If you could let us know what your collecting interest is, you'll get better recommendations-- But I think you can find a lot out just by looking at the topics on this site, and other websites dedicated to stamps and collecting topics.

Did I also tell you that I've tried, and LOVE, spam musubi (did I spell this right?)

A good general book on US is "Encyclopedia of United States Stamps and Stamp Collecting", but there are hundreds of others, again depending on your interest.

Again, Welcome! Ray

It really depends Susan. Do you have a specific interest? Or are you just looking for a general "how to" type of thing?

also a belated Mele Kalikimaka to you :) I lived at Barbers Point and Schofield Barracks for six years and then worked at Koke'e State Park for two years long ago. I miss da Islands sista. You kno gettin da kind and stuff :)

Aloha Ray & Chief,

Thanks for the welcome! I have stamps from all over the world, but mostly from the U.S. I checked out the "Encylopedia of US Stamps and Stamp Collecting" book and it looks like a good one and it is avail on Amazon.

Right now, I am interested in sorting a bunch of stamps I have. Some of the foreign ones are difficult to tell exactly what country they are from unless there is some well known figure or monument on it. Currently, I have some stamps from different Arab countries and some stamps which are either from Japan or China.

A recomendation on a good general "how to" book would be appreciated too.

Thanks for help.

Susan

PS. If you love spam musubi, you should try the sushi here. Really ono!

Hello Susan, welcome!

You could ask Phil at

http://www.askphil.org/
(see the Glossary part)

or

use the worldwide stamp identifiers (lists of words) at
http://www.iswsc.org/iswsc_ident.html
ot
http://www.stampmasteralbum.com/For...fierHome.htm

or

if yp have access to a camera or scanner (preferably) then post a pic of whatever it is that you are wondering about on Stamp Community (start your own new topic or thread about it) and we all like to help and see pics and post our own.

This would be my choice from any I have seen
from all over the world.

It's a cracker...

Old, you'll have to search for it, but should be cheap.

Hope that suits your needs Susan,
of course, philately being so vast in it's array
places like the family here at SCF
is the place to ask for abstruse queries that will certainly pop up.
