I always look for local covers and cancellations. I obtained this one recently and I'm quite happy with it

Addressed to Mr. William Grant, Mill of Auchintoul, by Banff. It has a 1841 SG8 red brown imperf cancelled with the Aberdeen Maltese Cross. Stamp is in good condition which I always look for.

Posted June 8th 1844 in Aberdeen.
On arrival it got a boxed Banff Jun 9 1844 stamp.

The cover cost me around four pounds...probably worth double.
My ambition is to get a letter/stamp/cancellation from my home town which is one mile from Banff. The search goes on.

Nice "Maltese Cross"

I have similar covers in my collection. Also have a couple of red ones too. The trick is to get yellow or orange as they seem to be the elusive colours to get.I am still trying myself

Can you post a close up of the bottom left initial ? Nice Maltese X strike, bummer about the stain.

Not worried about the stain as long as the stamp and the postmarks were clean and tidy. The stamp is a BB

I'd love to see your MX's... especially any Scottish ones. I'm in the process of getting anything local to me. Have some off paper Victoran stamps with local 1844 type postmarks. Looking for the elusive Scottish "37" and the "Macduff Penny Post".
