Hi everyone, I am returning to stamp collecting after a very long absence. I will be virtually starting from scratch with a few bundles of US stamps on paper. I would like to purchase a US stamp album and have more or less narrowed the choice down to 3 probables...

1. Harris Liberty album
2. Scott's Minuteman album
3. Mystic Heirloom album

I have searched around the web trying to get some idea of what the internal pages look like for each of these albums......

Can anyone point me in the direction of a comparative review with suitable photographs.

Cheers

AGST,

There have been several reviews on the forum. You can do a search and perhaps get more information than you want!

This is probably the link you're looking for:

The Mystic Heirloom Album seems to be the most popular given it's low price. If you're into high priced, valuable stamps, then Scott is certainly much better, but it also comes at a hefty price.

I bought a Mystic Heirloom 3-volume album with D-ring loose leaf pages at only $38.95, plus $11.75 S&H, for a total of $50.70 delivered to your door. If you order it under Stock #M8104, you get 200 "free" used US stamps. In my experience, about 10% of the "free" stamps were faulty, but at no extra cost, you can't really complain.

Here's the link for the Mystic Heirloom:

The worst complaint about the Mystic products seem to be the poor quality loose leaf binders, but you can replace them at any stationery store or hobby shop with better quality products at a fraction of the price of what Mystic charges for the better quality binders.

By the way, I also have an old Harris Liberty Album. It works, but the 2-post oversized pages do not lend itself well for laying flat on a table, and the updated pages can get pricey. Also, I recently bought one of the newer Harris albums (now sold by Whitman Publishing) only to find that they had printed spaces for stamps on both sides of the pages, rather than just single sided, which I did not care for.

The US album on my site is the Heirloom. Can't beat it for the price

BTW, I've only scanned pages that I own stamps on so there are quite a few more pages in the album than what I show :)

I would recommend the Mystic Hingeless Heirloom at $100 or Deluxe Heirloom at $70. Great albums for the price. The hingeless will save you quite a bit of money on hinges.

As far as I know, the Mystic Hingeless has been suspended from sale due to production problems. Has not yet returned to Mystic's stock. So there's no telling how long you'll have to wait for one (it's been off the market for a few months now).

Thanks everyone for the replies.... I am definitely leaning towards the Mystic. I also like the idea of printing my own pages similar to Jim's album...

I like what he has done with the stamps that have descriptive text on the rear. He buys two sets and mounts one fwd and one back.

I've decided to get the 1947 - Present Mystic Heirloom album supplement #GS705 for $28.00. That way I can get my own better quality 3 ring binders. I can also make up and print my own supplement pages for any odds and ends that I want to include in the album.

I like the Harris Liberty Album, but the Mystic one sounds like a good deal too. You could pick up a used Harris Liberty Album on e-bay with some common stamps already in it for a little more or maybe the same money for a new one. For updated pages I print out the free us pages at stampalbums.com
