It actually looks legit. Look carefully at the perforations. They are correct. If it was a fake or forgery than I doubt that they would have authentic perforations. I could be way off base but if it were mine I might send it for cert just to see. The condition is really almost too good though for 1871 but stranger things have happened you know? Good luck!
Rod, the why is easy: the real things sell for fabulous amounts of money. Plenty of collectors want, or wanted, copies, and there are always forgers around to supply that sort of demand.
I'm not sure I'd call your stamp a cindy. Myself, I'd call it a copy.
