Hi everyone:
My name is Ron, I live in Montreal, and I'm looking forward to contributing to this great stamp collecting online forum. I chose CindyCan2 as my handle, as I'm primarily interested in Cinderella stamps from Canada. My background is in medical genetics research, especially neurological disorders. I've been collecting stamps since about age 10 or 11 (hint on age: one of my first stamps was a 10c Iroquois thunderbird stamp). I started with world stamps, but soon concentrated on Canada used stamps. I was able to convert most of my used collection to mint, and when I hit the financial wall, I got into Canada revenue stamps. For the past 3 years I've been putting together a large collection of Canada cinderella stamps, and hoping to write a book on the subject, as there are few references easily available. If anyone is interested, feel free to check out my website dedicated to my Canada cinderella stamps project at:
http://www.birdbearpress.com/.
Cheers,
Ron

CindyCan2, you've come to the right place, we like and spend money on coloured bits of paper!

Ron to SCF. Cinderella's are very popular here, you'll feel at home.

Thanks for joining up and sharing Ron, glad to have you with us. I am sure people will be sending you scans of their Canada cinderellas now that there is a collector and repository of information. - Jeff

Welcome Ron!

Egads, your book looks fantastic! If you've got any bookseller or bookbinder labels that are weeding up your fine collection, I'll be happy to take them off your hands :). Here's the only Canadian thing in my collection (to date).

Hi benjclark:
Thanks for sharing the image. I'd like to include a short paragraph on bookseller labels in the book, but unfortunately don't have any in my collection. Is there a catalog for these items? I did find an interesting website with some nice ones: http://sevenroads.org/Labels/Canada.html
Cheers,
Ron

Hi Jeff:
Yes I hope people will feel free to send me any scans of Canada cinderellas that they cannot identify. I'm amazed at the diversity, and find new items all the time. The more obscure the better! Every stamp has a story to tell...
Cheers,
Ron

Ron,
There's no catalog, but I am working on what I'm calling a field guide-- just trying to establish taxonomies so the handful of collectors can start speaking the same language.
Seven Roads is a fantastic site, but there for a few years Greg didn't maintain it. The way it worked was collectors would send him scans and he'd put them up when he could. I started a Seven Roads flickr group so collectors or whomever could upload their own photos.

http://www.flickr.com/groups/book_labels/

Seven Roads the original has a bit over 2500 images, the Flickr group is closing in on 1500, and many of them are different from one site to the other. The major downside of the Flickr group is that you rely on users to ID things/ tag things correctly. I just searched the group for Canada, and my own label didn't turn up! Fixed that, but that demonstrates you've probably got to search cities, provinces, etc. not just for Canada.

Anyways, let me know if I can be of any help!

Hi benjclark:
Thanks for the link to the flickr group. It looks like there's good participation from the collectors of these book trade labels. I'd be interested in your taxonomy for these items. I would have just put everything in alphabetical order! But I guess with a few thousand different labels, they need to be better sorted. Geographically, certainly, but I'd be curious about other ways to sort.
Cheers,
Ron

There are probably several thousand just from New York City. I organize by geography, then chronologically within that. There's also a little consideration for space. I don't like lots of empty space in my album.
