Hi. This looks like a great website and am very excited to find it.

I am a longtime newspaper person (reporter and editor), as in, I started in high school, continued in college and have worked for more than 34 years at the Syracuse, N.Y., dailies (first the Herald-Journal; now The Post-Standard), mostly as an editor the past 15 years. I am writing my first novel - a mystery based on the 1955 theft of the McCoy block of inverted Jennys.

I collect U.S., Canada, some Hungary, inexpensive Nos. 1,2,3 (or first sets), Italy Coins of Syracuse, definitives and sets that strike my fancy. Just started on some early Mexicans - Mulitas and more. Getting ready to dive into Denmark.

I am especially interested in what members have to say about storage - where would I find those type of comments?

Use Google even to search as on Google a lot of stamps results end you up back here on SCF as this site indexes itself onto Google. Or use Stamp Community's search function and looking for storage or storing or such words in titles only and in the whole posts also.

Dust cover is number one rule of storage and no excess sunlight and no excess moisture. After that, don't pile stamps on top of other stamps or books on books or albums on albums. Flattens things out too much and stick them all together too much, the pressure and the heat generated by it and all. As much as you can anyways. I always have to learn the hard way myself.

I agree with Puzzler on the storage suggestions. Dust covers are a must for any collector that loves his stamps! I have a dalmatian and I love him dearly but not so much the fur that the static cling of my vario sheets pick up! ha-ha! Also like Puzzler said the search function on here is phenomenal for finding just about anything stamp related topic you can dream up! If it has been covered it's in there. Hi Centerstage98. I was up to my neck in the newpaper industry once myself. My dad was President of Alta Corp and publisher of the Milford Daily News, which owned a few newspapers here in New England and NY., most Milford, MA, Biddeford, ME and Amsterdam, NY. Not the same as it once was with computers now, but I suppose that's progress. Glad to have you join up with us and I look forward to your new book! -Jeff

Good commentary above. For sure don't store those books flat. There are embossed stamps out there and you don't want to flatten them more than needed to keep them from curling.

The site was established for the Jeffs of the world. The rest just piggy backed along (oh, boy I am sure I will have to hide out for a while now!)

Welcome from another newbie. Ah, the novel....I have one that needs to be dusted off and revised...one of these days. Great site by what I have seen so far here and I'm sure there will be something learned to put a twist upon paper. Good luck.

Thanks for all the howdies. Yes, not that the holidays are past and if I can get a bearing on my new work sked (mostly 4 to midnight - I am exhausted) I can get back to work on the novel. Still untitled after 18 months of hard work. LOL .. but it is about 2/3 done .. just gotta get onto the home stretch.

The fun starts once you start submitting...and waiting...lol. unless you have already bypassed those steps to a contract beforehand. Good luck. Mine was on the doorstep of a contract and stupid me backed out of it because of being stubborn.
