Anyone who can beat 55 perfins on a single document
"A Co" holds the record..........

Excellent, thanks very much Rod, there's just so much to learn. So a little more advice if you wouldn't mind please. I need a better way to store my stamps so just wondering what you'd recommend. Is the album still the best and if so could you please recommend what one's are the best and where's the best place in oz to get supplies. Sorry for so many questions but i'd really appreciate any help I can get, thanks mate.

No disrespect implied, but my advice for a learner
is to learn to hinge.
Using hinges with a dab of moisture, and mount your
stamp on a quadrille page (little crosses) and mount
stamps a year to a page.

Each page has a archival plastic sleeve for protection
cost
$5 for 1000 hinges
paper $5 ream
sleeves 10c each
4! ring binder $5.35

So an entire GB collection
should cost you around $40 plus stamps
How cheap is that?

As you become more sophisticated in your collecting
and you will, you can choose mounts, stock books or other means.

My way early gives you the huge advantage of placing stamps in order
(a year to a page, and pages removable)
that you will always be in charge

Here is a random page from mine
(looks a bit sloppy, but scanned through the plastic)
Good Luck

I shop at Officeworks

here are the products I buy with their code numbers

The Archival paper, I buy a box of 5 reams (2,500 sheets) for $22
you may only need 1 ream to begin.

If you are going to hinge,
here's the rub,
You need, almost before anything else, a GOOD pair
of stamp tweezers / Tongs.

Get the Long Pointy nose tweezers, they are expensive
but absolutely invaluable. (around $14)

You have to become proficient in picking up the hinge
moistening and applying to the stamp with the tweezers.

The good quality long pointy tweezers are extremely thin
at the pointy end, and will not "blunt" a perforation tooth
when you pick up a stamp.
Also the legs of the tongs are sharpish, when removing a stamp
from a page when the stamp is hinged, you merely lift the stamp
slightly, glide the tongs underneath and sever the hinge with the
blade of the tweezers, this prevents bending of the stamps.

Thanks again Rod you've just been such a great help

I just had one slight problem..they shut down here Must be the GFC so I have a couple of options left before buying off the net.

One is to got to the other office supplies in the slim hope they can help and my other is to go to Lismore or Coffs office works so all is not lost just a bit of a drive because I'd like to get them face to face so I know what I'm getting as you so kindly put up those pics. Thanks mate

Not meaning to step on toes here but IMHO for newbies instead of using the pointed tongs get some spade tongs, on those the ends are like small shovels and if you use them to remove hinges or to lift stamps from paper after soaking they are less likely to pierce thru your stamp. I have some of the spade tipped tongs myself and I love them, but as you get more better with them then the pointed tips maybe better. BTW Nice collection specially like the Disney stamps thanks for sharing. And also here is a pic of my tongs showing what the spade tips look like.

Just remember this is just to get you started,
we are all different, you may want a more
classy presentation, you may want just stock books
(no hinges) etc.

This will give you 500 pages of stamps
on light weight paper for around $20
then see how you feel going along.

You must get the 4 ring binder for optimum support
You will have to print your own pages too.
Good luck.

Very interesting to note peoples differing opinions
on tongs /tweezers.

I used spade for a couple of years, and never really enjoyed
the stamping experience, moving up to the pointies
changed my whole experience, it was like driving a BMW

I changed for the simple reason I accidentally stole
the pointy tongs from my Club's president,
I found them in my stock book when I got home.
He rang me most concerned that he had lost "his favourite"
tongs, when I found them, I gave them a test drive
before returning, it was love at first "tweeze"

Pointies forever for me.

These are made by "Prinz"

BTW, these Prinz can actually pick up a stamp/s
from the glass platen of a scanner without damage!
Possibly the only tongs to do so.
