I had a fun time going through some purchases and gifts this Christmas. My daughter gave me a small green plastic from a local hobby store. Thought I was getting more in it but it had a huge filler cardboard and a lot of red French dupes. But nothing special.

I also Bought a used Scott catalog so I could at least check up on some Brazil stamps that I got just before the holidays. Mostly from the 20s through 40s. Nothing much expensive. But what an interesting lot to try and type. Different watermarks and such.

I'm sure it is not worth much but I got this interesting stamp with some sort of overprint that I haven't been able to Id. All I can say is it came with the bunch from Brazil and was wondering if anyone can give me a clue. I scanned it hopefully well enough to at least show.

Hi there. Sounds like you had a good Christmas. The stamp is Turkey, I think 1909 (SC#153). The overprint is another story. There are a lot of them so stay tuned.

edit - Semi postal, but again there are variations. And I wonder if the English text CILICIE or ILICIE is a separate overpint?

edit - The overprint reads "For War Orphans". If it is the 1909 issue with the overprint the possible issue is 1916 SC#B24. That catalogues quite nicely in my 2003 Scott's, but I don't want to make any definite conclusions. I've been wrong there before. But there's a direction for you to look.
Good luck.

There you go. BeeSee has it. It is a Turkish postage due, for Cilicia. 1919 SC# J2 or J6 depending on which Cilicie overprint you think it is.
Thanks for keeping me honest BeeSee!

Boy that was fast... The print on the bottom does look like a different color. Its on a thinish paper that the overprints soaked through and it does have more ink from it on the back side

Thanks all for pointing me in the right direction. I went scurrying for a couple of Scott catalogs. Had to look both in Turkey and Cilicia. I think I nailed it down to being referenced to SC#B28 and Cilicia #90. Seems that the region also used the semi-postals as regular postage.

OOPS

After looking at the listings I think jamesw was a little more right and my first guess was wrong. Now I am torn between the Cilicia #24 and Cilicia #43. But cant really tell the difference between the overprints.

Ah I see were I went wrong. I misspoke when I said they were postage due. I should have said semi-postal. So you are now heading in the right direction.
For what it's worth my money would be on #24, based on the proportions of the vertical to horizontal strokes on the L in CILICIE. It is more elongated than the second overprint. Also the middle horizontal stroke of the E is centred, like the first overprint. The second has that stroke raised slightly.
