What are the clues that a stamp from the classic period has been regummed
and can it be detected by looking at a picture, naturally of the gum side.

well sometimes. Looks for little balls of gum between the perf teeth and on the frayed ends of the perfs themselves but sometimes it's not that obvious. Here is an interesting thread on the subject- https://goscf.com/t/6296&SearchTerm...mming,stamps
