Sadly there are no stamp places to be found near me. Houston or New Orleans are the closest I can think of. There is a coin shop about 65-70 miles one way, but even he has moved from the "collector" market and more towards the bullion market. For us here ... gone are the days of sifting through buckets of mercs and buffalo's or digging through a junk bin. Now it's rounds or bars... take your pick. While the internet has opened many doors for collectors... it has closed many as well. We are at the mercy of the global price market for collectables where many "auction" sellers think CV is retail pricing guidelines.

Thanks everyone for making this a hot topic. I enjoyed reading about all the local stores or lack of them. As I mentioned before my local store is Aurora Stamps which is a stamps only establishment. I plan to stop by next Saturday and take a few photographs. I will post a few here to remind everyone of how it used to be......

Oh yeah and BTW this is post number 50........

I have to say that there are no stamp shops (that I know of) here in Oman. I would have thought that there would be at least one in Muscat. Unfortunately, if there is nobody who I know knows about it. So, online is pretty much the only option for me (unless I want to buy overpriced souvenir
sheets from the tourist places). Now, back home in Lexington, Kentucky there used to be a used bookstore which also had stamps (the guy bought up old collections and let people pick and choose for certain percentages of catalog). I don't know if he's in business anymore.

I feel fortunate that Subway Stamp Shop in Altoona, PA is only about 45 minutes away. I try to get there a few times a year - mostly to buy supplies, but also to browse. It's a great store, but they're only open 9-5 Mon through Fri so I have to take off time from work to get there. I'm also lucky that the APS home is about 15 minutes away - that's a neat place to visit, too.

As promised I took a trip down to my local stamp store today.... Aurora stamps in Edmonds (Seattle) WA. Unlike most stores mentioned in this thread, Aurora stamps is a stamps only establishment.

AGST, you are quite lucky to have a place like that nearby. Stamp stores like that are a rarity any more.

Thanks for sharing that wonderful store AGST. There aren't too many walk in stores these days with so much stock like that and only stamps! I love the variety of albums. Are those all used albums for sale? There is one goos stamp store by me called Bel Aire Stamp and coin that has coins upstairs and stamps downstairs. Another store is Golden valley Stamps is a pretty large supply store near me and it is like a supermarket of stamp supplies.
