I recently bought a collection from an estate and there were 18 of these in the collection. Does anyone know what they are

Hi TinMan,

They look to be from the USA series --- Overrun Countires from 1943-1944
Scott #s for the series is 909-921.

You can do a search for "overrun" to find some posts about them here.

Dave thanks for your reply, and your right on the overrun and Scott's numbers. I was wondering what they are. They're not First Day Covers. They're not Pre-cancels because they are Mint. I don't know if he cut them off a postcard or not but I don't think so... So again what are they? I have 18 Stamps in that format dated from 1932-1943. The two I scanned in. One postmark says Washington D Sept 14 9:a.m. 1943. Then in the small writing it gives the history of the stamp with basically the same information typed on it. Is this some weird form of First Day Issues?

To me, the stamps look like they are in plastic mounts. Is this the case?

I think I see remnants of an outline from a text box around the Belgium image. Is it possible these were cut out of an album or display exhibit?

They were cut from oversized pages that are part of a presentation album produced by the infamous Postal Commemorative Society. The postmarks are not "genuine", but reproductions. I don't think I've ever seen the entire collection, but I've gone through at least 50 pages, containing roughly a dozen stamps on each page. The collection is NOT complete, but for selected stamps. The pages I've seen run from the 1940s through the 1970s. Each stamp is "hermetically" sealed for "protection". It's a real pain to get them out of the mounts.

Latinus and khj, Thanks again. I think you both are right. They seem to be sealed in some sort of plastic mount.

Interesting choice of threads/forum to post, Rod!

This appears to be a cinderella commemorating the Fall 1984 visit of Japanese youth to China. Hopefully somebody can confirm or correct. At least the first part of the text does indicate Sino-Japanese Youth Friendship...

China did issue a commemorative set of 3 for this event. I have not seen this cinderella before. Nice piece!

Don't worry Rod, I like variety! I never pay much attention to which sub-forum, only the thread titles. I'm not a mod here, so I'll leave it to others to notify the mods if they want it moved. I found your post, so I'm fine with where it is.

Glad you were able to find the final ID. Yes, there are hundreds of these Chinese souvenir sheet "cinderellas" issued by a variety of printers. Some of them are actually based on original stamp designs, but without the denomination.
