I have an aquaintance who spends many hours each day selling Old Miss "stuff" on ebay. He's been disciplined at work, and it's even causing friction with his family. I think he has a diagnosable addiction. What do you think?

Do you think buying stamps can become an addiction?

I think that they can, just like anything else, become an addiction. Especially with the internet and ability to constantly be connected, there can be a disconnect with your family, friends, work, etc. if you are not carefull.

Your lights are on, but you're not home
Your will is not your own
You're heart sweats, your teeth grind
Another stamp is all you need
Whoa, you like to think that you're immune to the stuff, oh yeah
It's closer to the truth to say you can't get enough
You know you're gonna have to face it, you're addicted to stamps

Anytime you combine the adrenalin of checking classic stamps for the rare ones, inforced with the vapors of watermark fluid, and enhanced by the energy of caffiene....you are susceptible!

But...turn off the fan first.

I just keep thinking of that TV show Intervention with addicts. I would watch that episode where a person is addicted to a hobby and it is ruining their life. Here is a commercial:
A person frantically rummaging their house to find money and a pair of tongs to get their next fix. Nervously twitching, eyes darting everywhere, tapping their foot constantly, pacing back and forth. The line is long at the post office a new issue is being released and they have no philatelic clerk to meet his needs. The phone is busy to Kansas City Fullfillment Services AKA THE CAVE. The internet connection is down and they can't log on to the Stamp Community Forum. NNNNNOOOOOO!

This scenario was brought to you by the postmaster general and boredom at work. ;)
