Metalman, If I'm not mistaken this stamp called the "Forever" stamp can be used now or later. You can buy these stamps save them and if whenever the rates increases sometime in the future they are still good to use for mailing. One stamp is 41 cents now, rates increases to lets say 45 cents, then this stamp will cover the 4 cent difference. Then again rates are increased to lets say from 45c to 50 cents, stamp will cover the difference and so on. I guess this is why they named it the "Forever" stamp. Your postal office doesn't have these? I'd be surprised. These sell pretty quick around here. mila_ |

Yes, the "Forever" stamp can be used "forever" without need of additional postage when rates increase. That's why they don't show a denomination. I heard first class letter rates are expected to go to 42-cents in May. So if you buy them now, you can save a penny per letter later. You can also buy them as a hedge against rates going up to 95-cents or whatever in the future. |

My mother orders stamps through the local post office for use on the mail. She asks for commemoratives, but no "wildlife" issues because she's afraid of getting something with snakes on it. I dropped by the other day and brought in the mail which included her recent stamp order. She wasn't too thrilled seeing the Yoda stamp. She'll soon be 84 and would have preferred something a little more colorful and a little less out-of-this-world! |

I'm a Sci-Fi fan, so that Star Wars stamp of Yoda is awesome--I'm going to have to look closer in our small town post office for something that cool! Gussyboy1 44th post-almost there! |

Modern_who - Thanks for the post! Do we have the same Mother????
Ok. Gussyboy, I am SO)OOOOO green with envy over your Avatar.
Now, lets try to get back on track...
The Yoda stamp was interesting on a couple of levels. First, it's a nice drawing/representation. Secondly it's obviously "popular cultre". It is issues like that which will hopefully bring back collectors.

I suspect a lot of older mothers are that way, Prince_Afa. I haven't asked my wife, but I suspect she would like the Yoda stamp. My daughter is a young mother, and knowing her, I think she'd also go with something more colorful and a little less out of this world. Can't really predict any trend by that but maybe there is some cycling back to the more traditional among that generation. |
